\u1e6c\u012bk\u0101: Intoxicated by Gop\u012bjana-vallabha’s embrace, Ra\u1e45gadev\u012b says, “Oh hey wanton R\u0101hu, enjoyer of the Virgo (virgin-kumaris)! When you enjoyed the Virgo (Citr\u0101) why didn’t you enjoy the pisces (Campakalat\u0101) who was staring you in the face? Aha, you’ve messed up your R\u0101hu dharma again!”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On the circle of twelve Astrological signs, Virgo is the sixth house, and Pisces the twelfth; they are opposite. Thus, Citr\u0101 and Campakalat\u0101 stand face to face.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

48 As K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a embraces Campakalat\u0101, she exclaims, “Hey swindler! Why don’t you go to the Aquarius (Sudev\u012b)! Your fight is taking a crooked course!”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

49 When K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a caresses Sudev\u012b, she says, “He Madhusudan! This lively K\u0101\u00f1chana Lat\u0101 will fulfill all of your desires!”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u1e6c\u012bk\u0101: She notices that the Sakh\u012b named K\u0101\u00f1chana Lat\u0101 is smiling. Thus, to revenge her, she suggests: “Hey Madhus\u016bdan! The rasika Sakh\u012bs described you as R\u0101hu, but actually you resemble a thirsty bee, so only the flowering latas can satisfy your fancy. Why don’t you sample the pollen of this K\u0101\u00f1chana Lat\u0101?”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

50 But when K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a fondles K\u0101\u00f1chana Lat\u0101, she exclaims, “Hey K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a cakora! Why did you come to me? If you want to attain \u015b\u0101nti don’t waste your time with the others-just directly approach Candra-mukh R\u0101i.\u1e6c\u012bk\u0101: K\u0101\u00f1chana Lat\u0101 answers with a smile. “Hey K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a! Sudev\u012b is mistaken. You’re not a rasika bhramara (thirsty bee); rather, you’re a chakora bird. So, I won’t be able to satisfy you either. As only the full moon quenches the cakora’s thirst, you’d better approach Candra-mukhi R\u0101i-she can satisfy all of your desires.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In V\u1e5bnd\u0101van Cakravart\u012b’s Govinda-l\u012bl\u0101mrita commentary he now raises the argument: “The Vedas, Pur\u0101\u1e47as, Bh\u0101gavata and G\u012bt\u0101 all affirm that Bhagav\u0101n \u015ar\u012b K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a is sac-cid-\u0101nanda, param i\u015bvara and the Cause of all causes; why is he dancing like a puppet in the hands of the Vraja sundaris?”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

V\u1e5bnd\u0101van Cakravart\u012b answers, “As K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a is sac-cid-\u0101nanda, so are his gop\u012bs. Therefore, when they address him: “He Dh\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e6da (oh impudent one)! Hey K\u0101muka (Oh lusty one)!” Such words bring joy to the rasa abhij\u00f1a bhaktas (understanding transcendental mellows devotees); but persons uninformed about the divinity of these affairs fail to relish this rasa.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Furthermore, such people may also doubt: “We’ve never heard of such love affairs in R\u0101ma l\u012bl\u0101 or in the pastimes of other Avat\u0101ras?” But here \u015ar\u012b K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a’s \u015b\u1e5b\u1e45g\u0101ra rasa is superior to all other forms of material or spiritual conjugal love. Therefore, only K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a’s direct associates, or the fortunate devotees receiving their mercy, are eligible to understand and relish it.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Chapter 9 and 10 vividly reveal K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a’s dh\u012bra lalita personality, where he is completely subjugated by those having no trace of reverence or regard for his opulences. For these proud gop\u012bs consider themselves more than K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a’s equal matches; and hence, they don’t even slightly hesitate to shriek when he steps out of line!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a loves this behavior. In fact, it enslaves him! Because the gop\u012bs play hard to get, it forces K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a to become a premera bih\u0101r\u012b (courting romantic). He must take a subordinate position if he desires to succeed. Hence, the gop\u012b’s challenging spirit evokes K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a’s vidagdha nature-his clever, shrewd and witty disposition. The gop\u012bs themselves are parama vidagdha* and therefore, love’s sporting contest becomes a supreme match of wits. This is rasa.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

51 So before she notices, K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a rushes to grab R\u0101dh\u0101; he is bent on kissing her! But R\u0101dh\u0101 turns her head and exclaims, “He you cheat! If you want to kiss someone, leave other people’s wives alone and kiss your priya vam\u015b\u012b instead!”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

52 Hearing Rai, Krishna stops to consider: “Hay! My flute has fallen from my hand, where did it go?” Thus, Krishna becomes bewildered and looks towards Kundalata.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
