She signals for a variety of forest birds to begin chirping; and with the selected poetry of the parrots (both pleasing and piercing=, R\u0101dh\u0101 and K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a arise.The <em>sakh\u012bs<\/em> and <em>ma\u00f1jar\u012bs<\/em> then enter the <em>\u015bayana-mandira<\/em> with laughter and merriment. But when V\u1e5bnda sees everyone forgetting the necessity to return quickly home, She motions to \u2018Kak-khat\u012b\u2019 (an old female monkey) who shrieks: \u2018Ja\u1e6dil\u0101 is coming!\u2019\u00a0 Thus in fear and haste, R\u0101dh\u0101 and Govinda separate to scurry homewards to slip into Their own beds before sunrise.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Rasa Tara\u1e45gin\u012b t\u012bk\u0101 \u2014<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nThis <em>s\u016btra<\/em> summarizes the events described in <em>Govinda-l\u012bl\u0101m\u1e5bta&#8217;s<\/em> first chapter, containing (117 verses).<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">The V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana Setting<\/h3>\n<p>The Ni\u015b\u0101nta l\u012bl\u0101 takes place in V\u1e5bnd\u0101van&#8217;s most excellent location, \u015ar\u012b <strong>Govinda Sthal\u012b<\/strong>, which is a large island caressed by the main stream of the Yamuna and its tributary. It is shaped <strong>like a tortoise&#8217;s shell<\/strong>, a low, round hill crested by R\u0101dh\u0101 and Govinda&#8217;s breathtaking <strong>Yoga-p\u012b\u1e6dha mandir<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This enchanting temple is surrounded by four types of desire trees, namely <strong>haricandan, santanak, mandar and p\u0101rij\u0101ta<\/strong>. As the fragrant pollen from their flowers falls to decorate the ground, swarms of bumble bees buzz hither and thither, sounding like the humming vibration of Cupid&#8217;s bowstring.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Encircling the desire trees are four beautiful mandaps or raised platforms for sitting, with <strong>m\u0101dhavi, m\u0101lat\u012b, mallik\u0101 <\/strong>and <strong>golden svar\u1e47a-jut\u012b<\/strong> flower vines growing from their bases. Beyond these mandaps are <strong>four ku\u00f1jas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Svetambuja Kunja<\/strong>, the <strong>white lotus bower<\/strong> to the <strong><span class=\"wsw-30\">north<\/span><\/strong>, the site of R\u0101dh\u0101 Govinda&#8217;s mead-drinking lilas.<br \/>\n2. <strong>Nilambuja Kunja<\/strong>, the <strong>blue lotus bower <\/strong>in the<strong> <span class=\"wsw-30\">east<\/span><\/strong>. After dancing in the Rasa lila and enacting their water sports in the Yamuna, R\u0101dh\u0101 and Krishna come here for dressing.<br \/>\n3. <strong>Arunambuja Kunja<\/strong>, the<strong> red lotus bower <\/strong>in the <strong><span class=\"wsw-30\">south<\/span><\/strong>. This is where R\u0101dh\u0101 Govinda enjoy their late evening meals.<br \/>\n4. <strong>Hemambuja Kunja<\/strong>, the <strong>golden lotus bower <\/strong>in the<strong> <span class=\"wsw-30\">west<\/span><\/strong>. This immense bower is the resting place for<span class=\"wsw-24\"> all the sakhis and manjaris in R\u0101dh\u0101&#8217;s yutha.<\/span><br \/>\nIn the center of this kunja is <strong>R\u0101dh\u0101 Govinda&#8217;s jeweled shayan mandir<\/strong> encircled by a grove of golden banana trees.<br \/>\nBeyond in the eight directions, are the shayan mandirs of the Ashta-sakhis.<\/p>\n<p>Next there are consecutive spheres of kunjas that progressively double in number, starting with sixteen, then thirty-two, sixty-four, and so on, wherein the infinite numbers of gopis take rest. On the <strong>outer perimeter of Hemambuja Kunja<\/strong>, in each of the four directions, <strong>Sri Vrinda Devi, Sri Vrindarika, Sri Menaka and Sri Murala Devi <\/strong>act as doorkeepers.
