{"id":7296,"date":"2024-07-21T05:36:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-21T03:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shakti.tattva.se\/?p=7296"},"modified":"2024-07-21T10:57:52","modified_gmt":"2024-07-21T08:57:52","slug":"govinda-lilamrita-introduction-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shakti.tattva.se\/index.php\/govinda-lilamrita-introduction-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Govinda lilamrita Introduction 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong><span class=\"wsw-02\">Introduction 3<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Owing to the parama karuna (high mercy) of Sri Chaitanya and his followers, the priceless gift of <strong><span class=\"wsw-02\">R\u0101dh\u0101-Govinda lila<\/span><\/strong> has been made available to the fallen people of this age.<br \/>\nIn Caitanya-carit\u00e4mrita, Srila Krishna Das states:<br \/>\nWhen you realize that Krishna expects something more than <strong>vaidhi<\/strong> <strong>bhakti<\/strong>,<br \/>\nand that by only following rules and regulations that leads one to Vaikuntha,<br \/>\nHe will not be attracted, then it is inevitable that your attraction to perform <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>raganuga bhakti<\/strong> <\/span>will awaken.<\/p>\n<p>The spontaneous devotion of the Vrajavasis is called <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>ragatmika<\/strong><\/span>. Only the most fortunate person hears about such devotion and becomes attracted. (2.22.147)<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Smarana-sadhana (meditational practice) <\/strong><\/span>has two divisions:<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>lila smaran<\/strong>, or remembering the pastimes<br \/>\n\u2022 <span class=\"wsw-37\"><strong>manasi seva<\/strong><\/span>, or engaging in service to R\u0101dh\u0101 Krishna within a mentally conceived <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>siddha svarupa (perfect body)<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The first process represents the beginning stage of raganuga sadhana,<strong><span class=\"wsw-37\"> the latter<\/span><\/strong> is for advanced sadhakas.<\/p>\n<p>In his <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Harinama-cintamani<\/strong><\/span>, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur labels the first stage of raganuga sadhana as shravan-dasha, or the stage of hearing.<\/p>\n<p>When devotees discover their <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>lobha <\/strong><\/span>for hearing Vraja lila katha awaken, the Govinda-lilamrita is the ideal basis for their sadhana.<\/p>\n<p>One should read this book <strong>as a <span class=\"wsw-02\">daily practice<\/span> so that the lilas may always <span class=\"wsw-02\">fill the mind<\/span> and <span class=\"wsw-02\">mark<\/span> one&#8217;s mind. <\/strong>During the shravana dasha stage, it is also helpful to study rasa granthas such as <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Bhakti-rasamrita sindhu<\/strong><\/span> and <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Ujjvala-nilamaNi<\/strong><\/span>, or other lila granthas like <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Dana keli-kaumudi<\/strong><\/span>, <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Vidagdha-m\u00e4dhava<\/strong><\/span> and <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Madhava-mahotsava<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Many Gaudiya mahajanas have written about the asta-kala lila. For example, Srila Vishwanath Chakravarti closely follows Govinda-lilamrita in his <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Krishna-bhavan\u00e4amrita<\/strong><\/span>, adding details but without repeating.<br \/>\nOn the other hand, Srila <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Kavi Karnapur<\/strong><\/span> sometimes matches the Govinda-lilamrita&#8217;s format and sometimes varies the sequence in his <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Krishnanika-kaumudi.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The siddha mahatma, Sri <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Krishna Das Baba of Govardhan<\/strong><\/span>, also known as <strong><span class=\"wsw-02\">Dina Krishna Das<\/span><\/strong>, was a junior contemporary of Vishwanath Chakravarti. Besides writing songs in Bengali like the well-loved <strong>jaya radhe jaya krishna, jaya vrindavana<\/strong> and the <strong>Tulasi arati<\/strong>, he compiled two works on the asta kala lila that are very highly regarded in the Gaudiya Vaishnava world.<\/p>\n<p>The first of these is <strong><span class=\"wsw-02\">Bhavana-sara-sangraha<\/span><\/strong>, a collection of 3100 verses taken from thirty-four different works of the Goswamis. The second is the <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Gutika<\/strong><\/span>, in which Siddha Baba presents a detailed guideline or manual of how to meditate on Vraja lila in manjari bhava. It is said that R\u0101dh\u0101rani herself appeared to him and ordered him to write the Gutika, which skilfully blends both Sri Gauranga and Sri Krishna&#8217;s asta kala lilas.<\/p>\n<p>In the world of Mahajana-padAvali, the songs of the Bengali Vaishnava poets, there is no shortage of material related to the asta kala lila. Many of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu&#8217;s direct associates, or other close associates such as <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Murari Gupta, Narahari Sarkar, Vasudeva Ghosh, Govinda Ghosh, Lochan Das <\/strong>and <strong>Narottam Das Thakur<\/strong><\/span>, made immense contributions to bringing Goloka&#8217;s prema dhana, Harinam sankirtan into the reach of the fallen people of the Kali yuga.<\/p>\n<p>The Rasa-tarangini Tika also contains numerous examples taken from this rich source of nectar. A brief description of Sriman Gaurasundar&#8217;s pastimes, has been taken from the <span class=\"wsw-02\"><strong>Bhavana-sara-sangraha<\/strong><\/span> and included at the beginning of each of the eight time periods.
