Before starting, sit on an \u0101sana and perform \u0101camana<\/em>.
\nWhile ringing the bell, offer flowers (pu\u1e63p\u0101\u00f1jali<\/em>) at the feet
\nof each deity with the mantra e\u1e63a pu\u1e63p\u0101\u00f1jali\u1e25<\/em> and the
\nrespective m\u016bla-mantra<\/em>.<\/p>\n

then offer each article.<\/p>\n

  1. incense (dh\u016bpa<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  2. ghee lamp (d\u012bpa<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  3. conch with water (\u015ba\u1e45kha<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  4. a cloth (vastra<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  5. flower(s) (pu\u1e63pa\/pu\u1e63pani)<\/li>\n
  6. whisk (c\u0101mara)<\/li>\n
  7. (optionally) peacock fan (pa\u1e45kha<\/em>) [the peacock fan is offered only
    \nto V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana-k\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, who wears a peacock feather.]<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Before each article is offered, purify the right hand
    \n[with a drop of water from the pa\u00f1ca-p\u0101tra<\/em>], and then
    \npurify the article. chant the m\u016bla-mantra<\/em> for the deity
    \nand then offer the article.<\/p>\n

    Alternatively, one can purify all of the articles and then
    \ntouch each of the articles one by one and say the m\u016bla-<\/em>
    \nmantra<\/em> of the prominent deity, before the \u0101rati<\/strong> starts.
    \nThen, while performing the \u0101rati<\/em>, there is no need to
    \nsay any mantras<\/em>. One should still purify the hand after
    \noffering each article.<\/p>\n

    First of all, light the incense and the ghee lamp and
    \nthen begin to offer the articles according to the sequence
    \nmentioned in the previous list.<\/p>\n

    • the five-wick ghee lamp is offered four times to the
      \nlotus feet, twice to the navel, three times to the face, and
      \nseven times around the full form of the deity.<\/li>\n
    • Water in the conch shell is rotated in a circular motion
      \nthree times to above the head of the deity. [tip out a little
      \nwater into the throw-out pot after offering to each deity.]<\/li>\n
    • There are no fixed rules regarding the number of
      \ntimes other articles are to be rotated.<\/li>\n
    • Flowers are offered by rotating them before the deity\u2019s
      \nlotus feet only.<\/li>\n
    • The incense in the incense holder is not to be held
