1963-1970 Worked with the family construction company and learned all aspects of constructing homes. 1965-1966 Two year architectural course at The Wheatley School, Old Westbury. N.Y. (His designs appeared in an exhibition and were commended) 1965-1970 Trained as a fireman for the East Williston Volunteer Fire Department at Bethpage Fire School, where he received a certificate of competence and actively engaged in all fire emergencies in his local area. 1970 Graduated from the State University of N.Y. at Stony Brook with a B.S. in Social Sciences, a multi-disciplinary degree in Psychology, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, and History, with advanced courses in Education. Received his certification as a teacher from the State of New York and taught Social Studies at the Patchogue Junior High School during the fall term of 1970. 1973-1975 Learned all aspects of book publication while working with the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust Press in New York and Los Angeles. 1979-1986 Learned computer programming and systems (BASIC, C, dBase data, and the current operating systems). He is familiar with many aspects of computer technology. 1971-1998 Studied extensively the literatures of ancient India, including the Bhagavad-Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, the Puranas, Surya siddhanta and Siddhanta Siromani (Vedic astronomy), Vedanta Sutra, the literature of the Gosvamis, and dozens of other texts, along with the teachings of philosophers and mystics of the Western tradition including the New Age phenomena. 1979-1998 Studied and researched the medical and health care systems of the Ayurveda, herbalism, Electro-acupuncture, Homeopathy, light and sound therapy, and other systems of healing. 1981-2000 Studied and researched the etheric or energetic healing systems of Prana therapy and psychic healing phenomena Positions and Responsibilities since 1971 |
Trustee of the Mayapur Project, Member of the Mayapur Development Committee, the management authority of the Mayapur Project from 1977 till 1986.
From 1986 till 1998 was the director of the Mayapur Development Project. Mayapur is a town 115 km north of Calcutta, India. During this time the project grew to be 750 acres, earned recognition from the United Nations for part of the project, worked with Master Planners and Architects in the UK and India, and was budgeted at $250,000,000.
Project Director (CEO) of the Sri Mayapur Project Development, Bengal, India, a community development program based on a large temple to Lord Caitanya who appeared there in 1486. Robert oversaw and helped develop the master plan of the area and the design of the temple. The total value of the project at the time of his departure from ISKCON was about $15,000,000 and the projected cost of the temple was $200,000,000. He initiated and oversaw the successful effort to get a recognition from the United Nations and support from DFID, the UK development program, for the local area’s village development project he initiated.
Worked with Alan Baxter Associates, the engineering firm in charge of St. Pauls Cathedral in London, amongst hundreds of other projects, for the development of the Master Plan of Mayapur and the engineering of the large temple. Robert was the Project Director and worked in all aspects of the community development and management of resources.
During his time in Europe, Robert established or participated in the research, development and construction of farm and community projects in Almvik, Sweden; Passau, Germany; Dole, France; Cordoba, Argentina; and construction and renovation of larger buildings in St. Petersburg, Russia; Korsnas Gard, Sweden; Stockholm, Sweden; Zurich, Switzerland; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Abentheuer, Germany;
